Do you want to know the secret to stop procrastinating? It’s easy! It’s fast! It only takes 3 seconds. And the best part about this secret is that you already know what it is. Are you ready to know how to do it? It’s so simple it’s crazy. Within 3 seconds do whatever it is that you’re procrastinating about. Really. That’s it! It’s not that difficult. Sorry if you were expecting some miraculous “AHA!” moment. But…You already knew this was the secret. You already know what you need to do but you didn’t know it only took 3 seconds. People literally procrastinate about stopping their procrastination. It’s funny. You can stop procrastinating within 3 seconds just by taking action. Get up! Do something. Don’t wait. Don’t think about it. The trick is to just ACT!
Take Action – That’s the key. That’s the real secret.
The 3 second rule works because it doesn’t give your brain a chance to make an excuse for not doing what you know you should do at that moment.
People will make an excuse for not doing something after about 3 seconds. The longer you wait the easier it is to make excuses and the less likely you will do that thing you know you need to do.
When you take action within that first 3 seconds it forces your mind into a different state of thinking. Instead of searching for reasons or excuses not to do something, you interrupt the procrastination signal in your brain by taking action. This alleviates the urge to make an excuse to put it off because you’re up, moving forward and doing that thing you didn’t want to do.
Now your mind enters a new state of thought. You start thinking that you have to get this done and you want to get it done quickly so you don’t have to do it anymore.
The 3 Second Rule works and it helps you create a healthy habit
Get in the habit of doing things you’re procrastinating about. Make it a game. See how fast you can take action. Try to beat the 3 second rule. Do better than the 3 second rule. The more your apply the 3 second rule the more natural it becomes.
It helps you become more disciplined. You will be amazed at how disciplined you will become by continuously applying the 3 second rule. They key is taking action and doing things. Finishing burdensome tasks gives you a real sense of pride and accomplishment. They become small triumphs and you should be proud of that.
The more you take action the easier it gets and the more disciplined you will become until it becomes habit. That’s what this is really about. It’s about making self discipline a habit.
